This essay examines my development of MLIS Competency H: identifying, using, and evaluating emerging information technologies. Through multimedia production, web publishing, and web development, the projects discussed demonstrate how digital tools can support communication, access, and engagement within modern information environments.

People rarely ask for exactly what they need, and their questions change as they search. This essay draws on Bates, Kuhlthau, and Duff and Johnson to look at how archivists can shape finding aids, metadata, and reference services around how people actually look for information, including the way researchers so often find what they weren't seeking.

Putting a collection online doesn't teach anyone anything. This essay looks at how to design learning for audiences who arrive voluntarily and can leave at any time. It draws on backward design, multimedia learning principles, and Universal Design for Learning, and it's built on my Disney animation video essays, their K-12 activity sets, and a public program proposal around a restored silent film.
